Artistic Statement

Artmaking is the iterative process of translating vision into physical manifestation.
The process in which intermediate sections or attempts can provide feedback to and modify the original vision; this is the artistic project in which I am currently involved.

As a dance artist I invest in the possibilities that exist between the initial vision of a work and the finished work. I refer to it as the "translation" and it is the perpetual pursuit of this translation that drives my creative process.

Each thought, spark or sensation that pitches the next decision forward is highly valued.

What is it, where does it come from and what are the implications of it? The information and inspiration that go into the formulation of choice are constantly questioned and it is these questions that I put into my pieces.

Moreover, an obsession with the act of melding the intellectual with the intuitive and the kinesthetic is constant. Why this before that? Why do or not do? What gets made and why? What feedback is the body giving about the way the piece should unfold? What sensory information is coming forward and influencing the next creative choice? I believe in spending time with material in order for the mechanical and conceptual components of the movement to make themselves apparent.
